I’ve been using the internet since before Netscape, sending my art files over a BBS system to a printing company in Boise, Idaho. That was actually pretty incredible and immediately sparked my interest in using this new medium as a marketing and presentation tool. At the time I was creating interactive CD’s for client distribution and thought why put all that investment into that media when the internet is so relevant. Print is still important but to print and distribute not only CD’s and brochures is expensive and often you were left with outdated media. So I learned to create websites. While my skill is in designing the look and navigation of the site I do like editing at the code level. Learning CSS, HTML or PHP from hacking it is like working a puzzle. “Let’s see what happens when I edit this piece of code…. hmmm, woops no that doesn’t work… what happens when I do this… okay cool that worked.” I like problem solving.

The examples above are from recent sites I’ve designed. They include shopping cart and portfolio sites. Many represent where I see the internet heading and are examples of blogs or sites that make use of video. Finally we have enough bandwidth to do the things we only dreamed of doing in the early years. I think my new site is a perfect example of the evolution of site design. I love how it presents my portfolios in slide show format and that visitors can interact with the slide show and me for that matter by posting comments. In this new site I can mix all aspects of my experience from business to the pleasures of learning to play the violin. I can easily post videos and share other posts from sites I visit. The internet has gone social and I love it!!!
